What is Acid Reflux?

Acid Reflux is a condition where the acid produced by your stomach backs up into your esophagus.

Normally, this acid is kept inside of your stomach by a valve called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

When you eat the LES opens to let food pass into your stomach and then closes right away.

If the valve opens too often or doesn’t close all of the way, then stomach acid can back up into your esophagus causing heartburn.
